My Journey Back to Work: A Learner’s Story
“Passport to Work gave me the support and motivation I needed to get back into work and believe in myself again.
When my Employment Advisor at Waltham Forest Jobs told me about the Passport to Work course, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t have high hopes. I thought it might be just another run-of-the-mill programme. But I decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad I did.
The course covered Employability Skills, Work Skills and Essential Digital Skills, all delivered with clear guidance and a practical curriculum. I learned how to create a strong CV, write tailored cover letters and prepare for interviews with confidence. I also gained digital skills such as using Microsoft Office, formatting documents, working with spreadsheets and staying safe online, all of which I now use in my new job.
What made the biggest difference were the tutors. They were supportive, encouraging and shared real industry experience that brought the lessons to life. They helped me build my confidence, which was just as important as the course content.
Before the course, I’d been at home raising my children and had limited UK work experience. I was looking for a part-time admin role that would fit around my family and, thanks to the course, I’ve now secured a job as an Administrator in a respected organisation. It’s the perfect fit.
Looking ahead, I plan to stay in this role for at least two years and take management courses to build new skills and open up future opportunities.
I’d definitely recommend Passport to Work to anyone who has been out of work or wants to improve their digital and employability skills. It gave me the tools, support and confidence to take that next step."
