English language skills for life and work
Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses will help you learn and improve your English language skills for living and working in the UK. You can make friends and get support for your everyday life to help yourself and your family.
Nationally recognised: Our courses range from beginners to Level 2. Our ESOL Skills for Life qualifications are nationally recognised. We also include digital skills, employability and maths to support you if you are trying to get a new job.
Your own pace: Our learners value our flexibility. We tailor each programme to suit you. You can take exams at a pace that is right for you. After you have completed our ESOL programme, you can move on to a functional skills course or do a training course.
Practical skills: We focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing. You also take part in activities to improve your knowledge of your local community.
Culture, community and learning: We encourage our learners to take part in fundraising and cultural events. You can also try out courses from other subject areas to explore more learning opportunities.
Learning with us: Our courses are in-person at a learning location, online or a blend of both online and in-person learning.

What our learners say
‘The courses have helped me greatly and made me more confident. I am now able to work and have found a job… I would not have been able to do this without support for my English.’
Zahira, ESOL Entry 3 Learner
‘The impact of the course on my life is very real and useful … at work and while shopping… It has helped me prepare to get to university.’
Abdulai, ESOL Level 1 Learner
Careers and opportunities
Research shows that improving your English can improve your life, help you find work or get better paid work.
‘There is a clear link between the level of English spoken and the level of qualifications obtained, and between levels of English and employment rates and labour market capabilities.’
Casey Review into Opportunity and Integration (December 2016)
More than 60 per cent of our ESOL learners move on to further study. With ESOL Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications, learners can take courses including hair and beauty, and childcare. They can also get a better job or become a volunteer.
