Skills for a career in childcare

Our courses are ideal if you are interested in a career in childcare. We also have qualification courses that allow you to get a job, apprenticeship or do further study.

Our courses include Caring for children, Childcare, and Childminding. Your journey will start with an assessment: we will discuss your skills and study options.

Get a formal qualification: At Entry Level, we support your preparation. At Level 1, you will learn about working in early years settings and get the opportunity to improve your written and spoken English. Our Level 2 childcare certificate requires you to have a placement. Level 2 and Level 3 courses focus on child development and building relationships with children and staff.

Employment: We offer Level 3 childcare courses at apprenticeship level, and other great employment opportunities.

Taster sessions: Not sure if this is a career path for you? Please ask us about our free taster sessions.

Learning with us: Our courses are in-person at a learning location, online or a blend of both online and in-person learning.

What our learners say

Harriet’s company closed down during the Covid-19 pandemic, and she was at a loss as to what to do next:

‘I did my initial assessment online, and got a place on a Level 1 course. My lecturer made me feel welcome … she is very helpful and talks you through things with calmness. I am using remote blended on-line [learning] … the Adult Learning Service Learning Hub has the text we need [and] we can do our assignments on-line.’

Harriet, Caring for Children + Employability Level 1 learner

‘The time was convenient as it allowed me to go to work during the day. Location was great, and the class was relaxed and allowed for discussion.’
