English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

We are currently holding assessments for learners to enrol on English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses. For the next available dates and to book your place please call 020 8496 2974 or email adult.learning@walthamforest.gov.uk.

Interviews can take up to two hours. Please do not bring young children with you as they may get bored and distract you or other learners.

Once you have had your assessment, you will then be offered a course appropriate for your level of English. ESOL classes run during daytime, evenings and at weekends.

ESOL courses are FREE if:

  • You are aged 19+ and not working, and
  • You are looking for work and need to improve your English, and
  • You receive qualifying benefits
  • You have been living in the European Economic Area (EEA), including the United Kingdom, for at least three years

If you do not qualify for free courses and are in receipt of some other state benefits you may be eligible for a discounted course fee. Contact any of our main centres for information.

If you are a Home learner and not entitled to free or discounted ESOL courses, you pay a set fee for each course you attend.

If you are NOT a Home learner you have to pay the full overseas fee for your ESOL course.

Administrative staff will be happy to let you know how much the overseas fee is for each course. You need to pay the full overseas fee at the time of enrolment.
