When you want to study Events Entrepreneurship at university not many traditional sixth forms offer the type of course that will give you a good foundation for your degree.
That is why Redbridge resident Neve Hamilton-Downes signed up for the Level Three apprenticeship in Live Events and Promotions at Big Creative Training in Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow.
Neve said: “I did AS Levels in sixth form including business studies and Spanish but they weren’t really the options I needed for my degree course and future career so I did some googling and came across the apprenticeship at Big Creative.
“It cuts across music and the arts and is equivalent to two A-levels which will help me get on my chosen course at the University of East London (UEL). The practical experience from the course, and the network of contacts, will be a big help not just when I’m at uni but when I’m building my career in events management.”
Neve’s practical experience is with Dynamite XP, which operates internationally, nationally and across London, organising and managing a range of corporate and private events from conferences and awards ceremonies to Christmas parties and team building days. Clients include some well-known fashion brands.
She added: “The course finishes in March this year and I will continue working for Dynamite through the summer as I really enjoy the work and it’s great experience. I’m hoping to start at UEL this September.
“I’m pleased I did the apprenticeship course as it is a more practical approach to learning which will help my career – I’d recommend any young person to check out what apprenticeships are available to suit their needs.”
