Our English taster sessions give you an opportunity to find out what to expect from our English courses and to practice your skills before joining another course leading to a qualification, such as GCSE or Functional Skills.

Functional Skills is a recognised qualification needed for progression in employment and education. We offer courses at all levels from Entry to Level 2. Our English courses will help you improve your reading, writing and communication skills.

A GCSE English Language qualification is a basic requirement for most employers and education institutes. Our GCSE English course will provide you with an recognised qualification upon successful completion of examinations. As well as developing your reading and writing skills you will also learn how to analyse and interpret fictional and non-fictional writing.

  • Learn how to communicate clearly through effective speech and writing.
  • Develop your analytical skills, your ability to apply communication skills and the knowledge to present opinions successfully.
  • Discover your personal style and adapt to the audience that is being addressed.

Our Book Clubs are perfect for anyone who enjoys stories. The stories shared at the Book Club will be from all around the world and will cover a range of styles. At each meeting we will read a short story which you will then have access to read again in your own time. After reading the book we will discuss your thoughts on the story whilst exploring the characters, events and themes.

This course is for those who would like to improve their creative writing skills whether for pleasure or profit. It is also useful preparation for GCSE as you will develop your descriptive writing skills which are included in the GCSE syllabus.

You will develop your skills in the following areas:

  • How to plan and write different types of text.
  • How to write an opening paragraph that will hook your reader.
  • Developing a character.
  • Descriptive language.
  • How to develop a structure and plot.
